Those who study or train under the Obsidian Knights are not always nobility. In fact most are recruited outside of nobility, from street urchins, to old men who served in the army to a converted raider, who was turned down a better path. As a knight in training, you have been studying under some of the greatest warriors, and brightest minds in the land. The initiates of the order learn the importance of history and geography. Being sent on a mission to assist a king, you must know the attributes of said king, the nobles who serve him, and the citizens who live within. Knowledge is the greatest weapon an Obsidian Knight has at their disposal. Knowledge of the people and of the world. Geographical landmarks, and key locations. Being taught about world factions, faction relations, countries, wars, castle and village locations, nation borders, prominent figures within said factions. This person knows the relations between countries and factions.
As an initiate you are taught how best to handle people according to the situation. You are thrown into situational simulations to see if you can handle a variety of circumstances. City riots, A bandit ambushes, group on group combat, gaining information from a prisoner etc.
You are also taught the art of combat, whichever form you choose. Be it long range archery, close combat sword and shield. A hard hitting great weapon user. and magic casting sorcerer. The Obsidian Knights being an elite fighting force as well as astute diplomats, you spend just as much time training in combat as you do studying with your fellow initiates.
