Due to natural causes or a terrible technological or magical incident, you are no longer on your homeworld. Maybe this event re-occurred multiple times, maybe it only happened once. No matter how many times you were thrown into a random world, the world you have ended up on seems to have stuck.
This place is strange to you and in turn, you are strange to it. Over your time in this strange world, you have learned some of its history and culture. However, you never fully abandoned the ways of your world. Perhaps you slip into your original tongue when muttering to yourself, or perhaps there are some phrases you can't help saying now and then, something will always give away that you are not from this world.
- Skill Proficiencies: two of the following: Perception, Survival, Performance
- Tool Proficiencies: Any one tool, gaming set, or musical instrument that you learned to use on your Homeworld.
- Languages: One language, foreign to the world you are in.
- Equipment: One set of clothes common to the world you are from, the tool, gaming set, or instrument that you chose above, one irreplaceable trinket from your world, and a pouch containing 2 gp.
The world you came from is as important as where you are now, you may use the table below to give yourself an overview of what your homeworld was.
| d4 | Origin World |
|---|---|
| 1 | MODERN WORLD, you come from a world similar to Earth where magic ether doesn't exist or is weak enough to where people depend on tech |
| 2 | FANTASY WORLD, you come from a world not unlike Toril and The Forgotten Realms, magic is strong causing the slow progression of technology. |
| 3 | INTERPLANITARY WORLD, where your from, you are used to the idea of interplanetary travel, whether it be by the use of ships or portals, you are used to the idea of ending up on an alien world. |
| 4 | SCI-FI WORLD, magic does not exist where you came from, and the idea of it is ridiculous. Where you come from, everything is explainable through science and the impossible is achievable through technology. |
You were awake for your travels through The Void, the space between worlds. This experience has left you with knowledge beyond your understanding at this moment. Knowledge of the future, or the past. occasionally this knowledge pops up in your dreams, as muddy to vivid visions. The DM may, during a long rest or other instance where you are unconscious, give you a vision. This vision may give you context for a current mystery, or knowledge of the distant or near future or past.
additionally, you gain a minor madness from the list below
- You tend to space out, staring at something only you can see.
- When not focusing on it, you gain a twitch in your hands or you vigorously tap your foot.
- You mutter underneath your breath every now and then, and when asked about it, you do not know what you were saying.
- You feel like someone is always watching you.
Suggested Characteristics
you are from a different world, so your personality may be odd.

| d6 | Ideal |
|---|---|
| 1 | Logic. I know that everything can be explained scientifically. even the most illogical occurrences can be rationalized with enough time and research. (Lawful) |
| 2 | Entropy. I have seen it, everything will end eventually. everything I do will mean nothing in the end (Chaotic) |

| d6 | Flaw |
|---|---|
| 1 | I am harsh to some races because of their monstrous appearance |
| 2 | Curiosity killed the cat... in my case it has lead to multiple close calls. |
| 3 | Due to my lack of knowledge on this world I am gullible and prone to believing misinformation. |
| 4 | I do not believe in the gods and do not respect them. They are merely people with strange powers. |
| 5 | I am very closed minded and do not believe that this new world could have different natural laws. |
| 6 | Due to my unfamiliarity with this world even the smallest weird thing scares me. |
Your accent, mannerisms, figures of speech, and perhaps even your appearance all mark you as foreign. Curious glances are directed your way wherever you go, which can be a nuisance, but you also gain the friendly interest of scholars and others intrigued by far-off lands, to say nothing of everyday folk who are eager to hear stories of your homeland.
You can parley this attention into access to people and places you might not otherwise have, for you and your traveling companions. Noble lords, scholars, and merchant princes, to name a few, might be interested in hearing about your distant homeland and people.

Posted Feb 1, 2021I like your idea and I’m going to make a similar version of this using some of the same stuff, if you want to see it look for “Beyonder” in the Homebrew backgrounds
