Local Folk Tale (Monster) Image

You are the story they tell children when they put them to bed. You lurk in the shadows, only because you are unwelcome either for your actions or appearance. The local bards whisper your story in taverns so that you don't hear them as they stretch the truth for a coin. The story has grown over the years and now even you believe you are the monster on their lips.

Defining Event

You had a life just outside of town. Growing up being different never was a problem until it came to townsfolk. Then it happens, an event that changed you forever. Your actions heroic or not were seen as actions of a monster. This started your tale and marked not only you but the land. Choose or randomly determine a defining event that marked you as a folk tale of the people.

1 A local was slain and it was because of my actions.
2 I was the cause of major destruction of part of the local town which cost local lives.
3 Whole town become stricken with illness after I came into the area.
4 Harassed by local children for years until one turned up dead during a storm.
5 My people have been attacked by adventures until I fought back.
6 Betrayed by the leaders of the townsfolks after discovering damaging evidence of wrong doing.
7 My personal tragedy was seen as curse not only me but the town as well.
8 Local Lord hired me to do some dirty work and framed me for the deed.
9 Descended from the previous local folk tale whom was slain by adventures.
10 I am the only survivor of my people whom the local townsfolks killed.
 
Feature: Monstrous Reputation

Since your the monster of the common folk, you strike fear in local that sees you. You can't find a place to hide, rest, or recuperate within the town, locals will hide or run from the sight of you. The law will hire outsiders to risk their lives get rid of you. You will always have an advantage with intimidation and disadvantage on all other social actions with locals and those who live in the surrounding areas. 

 
Suggested Characteristics

Folk tales are common on the tounges of bards. Most folk tales are tragedies that have befallen a town or person. The communities which they come from remain rooted in their fear. This happens to bring unwanted adventures to end the tale.
