Those who are known as quilists, are writers, historians, or restless scribes who wish to write things down as they happen. Nothing stops them from getting as much knowledge as they can. They are always seen with quills that look a little too metallic, straight, or both. These are their favorite weapons to wield, as they can easily write and kill with them.
- Skill Proficiencies: Insight, Perception
- Tool Proficiencies: Woodcarver's tools, Tinker's Tools, or a gaming set
- Languages: Two languages of your choice
- Equipment: 20 darts shaped like quills, a set of common clothes, a bottle of ink, a book with some events that are important to your life, the beginnings of a story or two that you have yet to finish writing, or some ancient events that you wish to learn more about, and a pouch containing 20 gp.
Before you had set out on your adventure, you consulted with a blacksmith, who designed your dart quills, and he gave you a copy of the design to show other blacksmiths so you can have more made for you. If you choose either the Tinker tools or the Woodcarver tools, you can make these quill darts out of small pieces of metal or wood during a short or long rest. If you take 30 minutes of a short rest you make 5 dart quills, and if you take about 4 hours you make 40 dart quills. You can still write with these quills just like normal quills/pens.
Suggested Characteristics
Almost every quilist has a shared dream, to learn as much as they can about one or more things or events. That is the only common thing between them, as each is unique and diverse. Feel free to come up with things that you feel fit your character and their motivations when you pick this background.
