Traveling Trader Image

You have chosen to spend your life working as a laborer, mercenary, or driver of a traveling merchant caravan. Perhaps your home was destroyed, you were no longer welcome, or there was simply nothing left for you there; regardless, you’ve chosen a life on the road. You mostly interact with common people, and as such you tend to be more charismatic than most. Work with your DM as to the details of your caravan and why you left it; was it destroyed? Did you have a torrid affair with the caravan masters daughter? Or was your wanderlust simply too great even for the roving life of a trading merchant?

Skill Proficiencies: Insight, Perception
Tool Proficiencies: One gaming set (your choice), vehicles (land)
Languages: The language of the people you most traded with, such as elves, dwarves, or gnomes.
Equipment: A gaming set (one of your choice), a shovel, an iron pot, a set of travelers clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp

Wanderlust

For whatever reason, you have decided to leave your home and join a traveling caravan. Perhaps your home was destroyed, perhaps you are no longer welcome there, or perhaps you simply wish to see the wider world. As a person of common means, you don’t have the capability to simply travel wherever you like. You must work to earn your place, so you joined a caravan as a laborer, mercenary, or driver.

10 Recruited into a lord’s army, I rose to leadership and was commended for my heroism.

Feature: Welcome trader

Since you come from the ranks of the common folk, you fit in among them with ease. They will treat you with respect, if not hospitality, and they will sometimes go out of their way to help you unless you have proven yourself to be a danger or a nuisance to them. As a traveling trader, common merchants may sometimes waive the price of basic goods or services, such as a night in a cheap inn, few days of rations, or basic caravan supplies. Further, you can secure free passage with another caravan provided you pull your weight.
