You made your living straddling the borders of civilization and wilderness, at home in both environments but truly belonging to neither. You lived a largely solitary existence for the sake of your lifestyle and occupation, but loneliness was never a problem for you. The beauty of nature was all the company you needed. Whether you earned your bread by selling the hide of mundane beasts you hunted or by keeping a constant vigil against invading war bands of gnolls or orcs, you knew your contributions were appreciated. Even though the comforts of civilization are always within your grasp, you can never truly abandon the hunter's ways.

Skill Proficiencies: Nature, plus two skills of your choice: Animal Handling, Medicine, Perception, Survival
Tool Proficiencies: One type of musical instrument, herbalism kit
Equipment: A dagger, a staff, a set of traveler's clothes, a cloak, a waterskin, and a pouch containing 10 gp

Feature: Hunter's Harvest

Hunting is a challenging and dangerous line of work, and takes a wealth of skill and dedication to make such an enterprise profitable. Thankfully you have plenty of experience, and are more than capable of making a decent living by selling materials and trophies taken from your kills. When attacking a magical or mundane beast from stealth with a ranged weapon for the first time, you may treat a successful hit against your target to be an automatic critical hit. This feature only works if you are hidden from your quarry and combat has not yet been started with the target. In addition, whenever you make survival checks to butcher an animal for its meat, reclaim spent ammunition from its corpse, or gather materials from a beast or beast-like humanoid, add your proficiency bonus to the roll twice. On a roll of 15 or higher, you are able to harvest a trophy from a medium or larger creature, which will sell for a number of gold pieces determined by the DM.

Suggested Characteristics

While most civilized folk keep a respectful distance between themselves and the grizzled and secluded hunters, they usually have deep respect and appreciation for them. Their skills could easily land them more gainful employment in the city guard or even a lord's army, but instead they tend defend villages and townships in close proximity to dangerous stretches of wilderness of their own accord, scouting the outskirts of those territories, and reporting unusual activity to that settlement's leaders. Even hunters who simply provide fresh meat and hide to settlements in harsh environments make a world of difference to the people who live there.
