You are on the run, fleeing someone or something that threatens your freedom and your very life. Not a moment goes by where the anxiety of capture burdens your thoughts, and those who are looking for you are a constant presence.
When you choose this background, work with your DM to determine who is looking for you, why they are hunting you down, the risk of capture, and if being in public threatens you. Is there a bounty on your head? Are you wanted dead or alive?

You know all the best hiding spots in the city you are from and can use that knowledge to find other good hideaways in the new cities you encounter. Patrols overlook these spots, guards may miss them in the heat of a chase, and they're usually good places to scamper to in a pinch.

Runaways may be slow to trust or desperate for help. Forever weary from the constant chase, they may either take a while to warm up to new people or try to insert themselves into any group to stay safe in their numbers. They are urban survivalists and may try to melt into the shadows rather than pick a fight to avoid getting attention from authorities.
