Whatever the reason, you cannot return and this is one of the primary themes of your motivation and identity. As an exile, you have a unique view of your host society and tend to see things with the eye of a survivor, of someone who has to live by outwitting the system and fighting for things that most of those around you take for granted.

You have access to local communities of refugees or exiled members of your homeland. They will provide information and support for you and those you vouch for. Such communities are often of limited means and their support will carry a risk for them and you.

The exiled often have to live with the constant threat of exposure, capture, or a basic distrust from their host societies. Although many make a good living outside their homeland, many also yearn to return and reclaim their former lives.
