The name of your sponsor: Alistar Thunderheart inspires wonder and admiration in the hearts of the common folk — if only they new the whole story! Songs and stories celebrating the adventuring exploits of your famous sponsor are widely known. Kids across the land grew up impatiently waiting for the “Amazing Alistar Thunderheart: Bane of Shadows” to come to town (and much later “The Amazing Alistar Thunderheart: Bane of Shadows.. and guest” show). There would be an extravagant performance with awe inspiring displays of *magic* all day but everyone’s favorite part was when the Amazing Alistar himself would regale the crowd with his exploits.
The truth behind the Amazing Alistar Thunderheart: Bane of Shadows is that he is your run of the mill con man. A snake oil salesman. A fraud. Nothing more. Nothing less.
In the end, all you have to show for it is your title. Most of the “adventuring” money went for consumables, from firework ingredients (to creat the *magic*) to copious amounts of dwarven ale. And everyone expects you to sling spells like your famous sponsor and perform equally miraculous (if not impossible) feats, making it doubly hard for you to prove yourself.
- Skill Proficiencies: Perception, Performance
- Tool Proficiencies: Disguise kit
- Languages: Two of your choice
- Equipment: Disguise kit, a set of fine clothes, and a belt pouch containing 30 gp
Alistar Thunderheart could sell water to a mermaid and you have gained just a fraction of this skill from working alongside him for years. You might be able to sell an idea or product to most folk in the campaign, at the DM’s discretion.
Additionally, the common folk treat you with deference, and the stories you tell might be good for a free meal or a place to sleep.
Suggested Characteristics
Apprentices of Famous Wizards must deal with fame that’s not theirs, wealth they didn’t earn, and expectations they can never hope to meet. These hardships can have adverse effects, but those who cope with them can arrive at a decent attitude and a grounded worldview. Those who fail become bitter — or worse.
