Chroma-Oxide Image

You were once a chroma-oxide before coming clean. Before a life altering event changed you for the better you made your living by fighting chromas and then stealing the credit for their job well done. Your targets mainly consist of solo rookie chromas, though if you're particularly prone to risk taking you may also have joined a band of ravens with the intent of swindling, scamming and backstabbing them the moment a big job comes their way.

If you are playing a character of this background, ask yourself why your character would give up their life of deception and betrayal to come clean and become a normal chroma. Did they have a change of heart? Were they given a reality check by a team of chromas they infiltrated? Or perhaps they never really did see the light?

Skill Proficiencies: Deception, Persuasion
Tool Proficiencies: One type of gaming set, forgery kit
Equipment: A forgery kit, a set of traveler's clothes, and a pouch containing 15 gp

Feature: Oxide Contact

You have a reliable and trustworthy contact who typically tips you off on big jobs you can steal. You know how, when and where to meet with your contact, and are on friendly enough terms with them that they'll agree to meet with you regardless of your alignment, so long as you don't rat them out.

Suggested Characteristics

Oxides might seem like villains on the surface, and many of them are villainous to the core. But some have an abundance of endearing, if not redeeming, characteristics.

d8 Personality Trait

4 Greed. I will do whatever it takes to become wealthy. (Evil)
5 People. I’m loyal to my friends, not to any ideals, and everyone else can take a trip down the Styx for all I care. (Neutral)

2 When faced with a choice between money and my friends, I usually choose the money.
3 If there’s a plan, I’ll forget it. If I don’t forget it, I’ll ignore it.
4 I have a “tell” that reveals when I’m lying.
5 I turn tail and run when things look bad.
6 An innocent person suffered because of a lie I spun. I’m okay with that.
