You are of the Feywild*, and it's chaotic nature is a part of your very being. More than that, though, you have spent time with those who patrol and guard the borders of that realm. Whether they spend more time protecting the Feywild from those without or protecting the mortal realm from those within is open for debate (and is, in fact, a matter of great debate among the wardens, themselves) their skill in doing so is legendary.
You had only just begun this journey when life pulled you in a different direction, and there may be those who have questions about that change in plans, so you skills are not exactly legendary yet, but you have started the path and received some of the benefits. You probably have some of the quirks as well. It is the Feywild.
Creatures from the Feywild tend to be chaotic in nature, and its wardens are no different in that regard. Your moods may be mercurial but they do tend toward laughter and mirth, at least. Not everyone is in on the jokes, though, and sometimes you must remind people of the wild in Feywild.
*You must be one of the Feywild races to use this Background.
- Skill Proficiencies: Perception, Stealth
- Tool Proficiencies: Any one musical instrument of your choice
- Languages: Any one of your choice
- Equipment: One set of traveler’s clothes, any one musical instrument you are proficient with, a pouch with small stones, twigs, and feathers from home, a small keepsake tied to why you left, and a pouch containing 5 gp
Why did you leave?
The Wardens of the Feywild pride themselves on their hardy independence and dedication to their task, so it is not often that one who starts down that path ends up leaving for parts unknown. You may have had a perfectly good reason for leaving, or you may have someone very curious about your reasons. Use the below suggestions as a guide for determining why you left the Wardens and even the Feywild, itself, to embark on this unusual journey.

Why did you leave? |
1
You haven't left at all but are simply performing your duties outside of the Feywild. You may be chasing a fugitive, retrieving something stolen, hunting a wild beast, or something of that nature.
2
You are fleeing from someone or something that you couldn't stand against. You hope to return one day to set things right, but you hope that day doesn't come before you are ready.
3
You are persona non grata for reasons you would rather not discuss (or maybe you discussed too much). You're not welcome back home, but how do you fel about that fact?
4
You are a spy. No, really! You were sent outside of the Feywild to gather intelligence for one of the Courts. Are they still checking on you? Are you remembering the task you were sent to accomplish?
5
You needed new sights and new places to explore. Maybe you were bored or maybe you played a prank on the wrong person at the wrong time, or maybe you're just hungry for new knowledge. For whatever reason you had the wanderlust and just had to go see what was over the next hill.

You got distracted. It's as simple as that. You weren't paying attention to where you were going and, before you knew it, you were patrolling some mundane farmhouse instead of the Feywild. Well, you're here now. What's next?
7
Mischief! It's all about the mischief. Everyone at home knows you too well and they're no fun anyway. Stuck up courtiers and brooding bog witches wouldn't know a good prank if it tied their boots together in the night. There's fun over the horizon.

You're on a hunt for glory and nothing is going to keep you from shining. Back home you were a little fish in a big pond, but out here? Look out world! You're going to show them what you can do. You're going to show everyone!

Feature: One with the Wild
Having spent the majority of your time in the border regions of the Feywild, you are more accustomed to the company of nature than people. Your mannerisms and speech patterns among people are often unusual and tend to draw attention, but you offset this by being able to communicate with plants and small animals. You can exchange simple communication with Small or smaller beasts. The animal's communication is limited by its intelligence but it can, at minimum, express basic descriptions of nearby locations, creatures, and activities. Plants cannot answer you in anything resembling words but they can understand you and can convey a basic emotional response. You may be able to convince a plant or small animal to perform a small favor for you, at the GM's discretion, but keep in mind that their ability to both understand and perform such favors is limited by their plant or animal nature.
