You have a second identity which includes documentation, acquaintances, and a disguise to assume that persona. You can forge any document as long as you have had time to study an example of the document or the handwriting you are trying to copy. You also know the secrets of your city and you can find passages others don’t know exist.

Maybe you were born an orphan. Maybe your parents were killed by someone. Maybe you were cast out into the streets for some reason. Whatever the cause you are far stronger and smarter than to die on the streets. You do what you need to survive whether good or bad.
