Whether you work in a temple, a university, or a stand alone library, you are an archivist's assistant. One day, you'll be an archivist yourself, but for now you must learn the trade. This has given you access to a variety of texts on many fields of study.
- Skill Proficiencies: History, plus your choice of one from among Arcana, Perception, or Religion.
- Languages: Two of your choice.
- Equipment: A bottle of black ink, a quill, a scroll case with 5 sheets of parchment, chalk, 2 books (consult with your DM on the subject matter), a set of common clothes, and a belt pouch containing 10 gp
You have a letter of introduction or certificate that identifies you as the assistant to an archivist of a temple, university, or stand alone library. This allows you entry into most libraries and scriptoriums, or grants you audience with sages and scholars that would be otherwise inaccessible to the public. You can be trusted to take care of manuscripts and tomes, and may even be permitted to borrow such materials.
Suggested Characteristics
Use the tables for the sage background as the basis for your traits and motivations, modifying the entries when appropriate to suit your identity as an archivist's assistant.
Archivists, and therefore their assistants, spend a great deal of time surrounded by scholarly texts and thus value knowledge highly. While some may guard the knowledge closely and others dedicate themselves to spreading it as far as they can reach, all archivists can agree that it must be preserved.
