As a young child or even an adult you were trapped in the Feywild for some time. You may have become lost and wandered into the Feywild where you remained for 100 or more years without aging a day. You may have caught the eye of an amorous or jealous fey who whisked you away to their home without your consent to be their concubine or their servant. You may have become lost in the woods and a fey led you astray under the guise of helping you. Somehow, you made good your escape. Perhaps some adventurers visiting the Feywilds found and liberated you. Perhaps you earned your own freedom by finally besting your capricious captor in a game of riddles. Perhaps you slipped away and don't even remember how. Either way, you're back where you belong... many years out of place and time, with muddled memories of your time in the Feywild and a bitter awareness that you were not the same as you had been and never would be ever again.

Your Escape from the Fey

The Fey found some way to snatch you away from the life you knew, but you managed to escape. Here's how it happened. Roll on the table below or choose from the options provided.

d8 Your Escape from the Fey
1 You bested one of your Fey captors in a riddle contest and earned their respect.
2 You managed to steal a precious artifact of a Fey and used it to escape.
3 A band of adventurers on a quest sojourned through the Feywilds and spirited you back to the Material Plane.
4 You managed to weasel out of a deal you made with a Fey and snatched your freedom. That Fey doesn’t like you very much anymore.
5 You saved a Fey from a perilous situation and in gratidude, they granted you your freedom.
6 You were the lover of a beautiful Fey who grew bored of you and let you go out of fading fondness.
7 You were tossed back into the Material Plane after you broke "the rules" of your captivity, with the distinct sense that the Fey stole something from you.
8 You simply found yourself back in the Material Plane with no clue as to how you escaped, just vague memories of your time in the Feywild.

Feature: Memories of the Feywilds

Your time in the Feywilds has changed you significantly, both mentally and physically; your entire being has been imprinted with memories of the Feywild, and your behavior is affected by the absence of social interaction with your fellow mortals for extended periods of time. You may even be a little bit crazy. You are eccentric and your behavior is markedly different, with curious compulsions and quirks that draw the attention of those around you, which can often become a nuisance when you're trying to maintain a low profile. You may be out of touch with the time period you have found yourself in. You do, however, maintain a certain sensitivity towards the presence of the Fey and have an easier time detecting their presence or signs of their passing near you.

Suggested Characteristics

Your lengthy stay in the Feywilds has irreparbly affected your mind, your behavior and your personality, giving you some quirks to grapple with in your every day life.

d8 Personality Trait
1 I often spoke with plants in the Feywild, so I believe the ones on the Material Plane can too, but are just shy.
2 I am given to bouts of reverie, often lost in the fading lanes of my vague memories of the Feywild, filled with both hope and dread of forgetting entirely.
3 I religiously abide by certain superstitions. Never cross a toadstool ring by moonlight, wear your socks inside out around fairies and always carry cold iron in your pocket!
4 The Fey hold one's word as absolute. I never lie, though I may weave my way around the truth, and I will hold you to your word with no quarter given.
5 I do not trust appearances. An old woman could be an enchantress just as easily as she could be a wicked hag.
6 I am out of touch with the time and place I have found myself in. I have many antequated habits and I'm still catching up with current events and social norms.
7 I remain fascinated with tales of the Fey and secretly wish to recapture the wonder of the Feywilds any way I can.
8 The Fey often ignored me when they grew bored of me. I got so used to being ignored, I will often talk to myself loudly and remark on things I see -- even when I shouldn't!
d6 Ideal
1 Freedom. I am determined to never again be held captive or allow myself to languish under someone else's power! (Chaotic)
2 Regret. I have vague memories of the life I left behind before the Fey took me, a life now lost to me. What is left of that life? (Any)
3 Secrets. The Fey deal in secrets like mortals deal in gold, and I know full well the value of a heavy secret. (Neural)
4 Word. I never break an oath and expect others to hold their promises. I always collect. (Lawful)
5 Revenge. I was the plaything of a cruel Fey and it has left me with a lasting enmity towards all Fey. (Any)
6 Nature. My time in the Feywilds has disillusioned me to the laws and morals of mortals, and I am prone to flouting them entirely.
d6 Bond
1 I fled into the Feywilds to escape some aspect of my life. I must inevitably confront it.
2 I have a tentative friendship with a Fey creature that helped me in my hour of need. They may come calling in that debt.
3 I was marked by my time in the Feywilds and have an obvious physical trait that distinguishes me as Feymarked, such as antlers, feathers for hair and eyebrows, oddly-colored eyes, an echoing voice or other otherworldly trait.
4 I'm searching for any trace of the life and people I left behind when I was taken.
5 My heart belongs to a capricious Fey. I love them in spite of myself and pursuing them may lead me to ruin.
6 Part of me misses the Feywild, even if my memories of it are blurry. I search for ways to return there, somehow, even if it spells my doom.
d6 Flaw
1 If I can find a way to twist an agreement or a promise to my favor, I will do so. Even from my closest friends.
2 I am loath to give my true name out to anyone and prefer to call myself by some nickname or other.
3 I am extremely possessive of people I consider to be "mine" in any way.
4 I have certain daily rituals that I must adhere to every day. I cannot fathom breaking them.
5 The Feywild is a place of imagination and abandon, and I've grown to have unrealistic, storybook expectations about the world around me.
6 My fancies and infatuations with people, causes or ideas come and go with alarming and unpredictable speed.
