You are a member of the Garbage Guild, a guild dedicated to collecting garbage and distributing it at landfills. You are a well-established part of the world at large, freed by your place among the filth from the constraints of a feudal social order. You learned your skills as an apprentice to a master garbage collector, under the sponsorship of your guild, until you became a master in your own right. The Garbage Guild is also widely renowned for being one of the most accepting guilds there is, for as long as you can pick up the trash, you can come in and work, no questions asked.
- Skill Proficiencies: Insight, Perception
- Tool Proficiencies: Vehicles (Land)
- Languages: Undercommon
- Equipment: The official license of the Garbage Guild, a set of traveler’s clothes, and a pouch containing 15 gp
Generally, the Garbage Guild is split into three separate categories: The Coastal Clan, Mid-Town Waste Management, and Dark Garbage Collection. You must belong to one of these clans, and depending on your clan, you may gain different benefits in different areas. The Coastal Clan can offer safe passage on a trash trawler across the sea if need be, Mid-Town Waste Management can offer room and board and a ride in a truck, and Dark Garbage Collection is good at sneaking in and out of spaces unseen, and could help you get into some places undetected. While these clans don't hate each other, they do have a small rivalry going, and members of one clan would not be caught giving help to another clan unless it was quite a dire situation. Pick one clan from the table, or roll a dice to choose randomly.

As an established and respected member of a guild, you can rely on certain benefits that membership provides. Your fellow guild members will provide you with lodging and food if necessary, and pay for your funeral if needed. In some cities and towns, a guildhall offers a central place to meet other members of your profession, which can be a good place to meet potential patrons, allies, or hirelings.
Guilds often wield tremendous political power. If you are accused of a crime, your guild will support you if a good case can be made for your innocence or the crime is justifiable. You can also gain access to powerful political figures through the guild, if you are a member in good standing. Such connections might require the donation of money or magic items to the guild’s coffers.
According to your clan, you can also receive the following benefits:
- Coastal: Safe passage across the sea, provided you still help trawl for trash along the way.
- Mid-Town: A safe ride to a nearby destination on a truck, as long as you don't mind the smell.
- Dark Garbage: Aid in sneaking through populated areas, as long as you help collect some garbage along the way.
You may also freely search through garbage at a landfill once a day for useful items. Who knows what might turn up!
You must pay dues of 5 gp per month to the guild. If you miss payments, you must make up back dues to remain in the guild’s good graces.
Suggested Characteristics
It takes a lot to want to sift your hands through muck and filth all day, whether that be because of desperation or a sense of civic responsibility. Whatever the case, garbage collectors are among the most diverse people in the world, each having their own agendas as to why they do this. This grit and determination often carries over into their adventuring careers, if they decide to have one, as years in the landfills have given them a resilience that few others have.

You work out of the Coastal Clan, and as such, you aren't very used to driving around the big trucks of the more land-loving garbage collectors. No, you're much more used to driving around the big trash trawlers and cleaning up the seas!
Rather than proficiency with land vehicles, you are proficient with vehicles of the sea.
