You were a champion, once. A person or creature with a storied history, reputation, and community. You were known by many, feared by others, worshipped by some. Whether renown and glory was your intent or not, it happened anyway and at the time, you were at the peak of your power.
Behind you trailed a wake of progress or improvement, the betterment of settlements and common folk. Your accomplishments earned you the seat at many tables and your words held a weight to even the most ignorant of noblemen. You had earned your respect after several years or decades of difficult work and achievement, and you were finally able to taste the fruits of your labor. From nothing, to a shining star, you had become someone of note. Finally.
But...
You were still mortal. Godhood and immortality weren't within your grasp either by choice or by happenstance, and eventually your influence caught up with you in the worst ways.
Enemies, vengeful foes, the defeated and the spiteful. The fearful and the distrusting. Many sought your downfall, but feared their defeat in the wake of your power, and so they schemed against you in the shadows, devising clever ways to lay you low without confronting you directly. Perhaps you were none-the-wiser or perhaps you believed you could stand against their plots; either way, it didn't matter. Though not without a valiant effort, you were eventually caught within their trap.
Cursed, sealed within yourself with no way of waking. Your followers, friends, and comrades brought you to safety but were unable to stir you.
Hidden away, the protection of a once great warrior was passed through generations as time passed.
Eventually however, your legacy was forgotten. The memory of you deteriorated over the decades, your name passing into the depths of history as nothing more than a myth or folklore. Shreds of your teachings and methods linger in certain cultures and practices today, but their practitioners have no recollection of their forebears.
You became nothing, once again.
But then, one day; somehow, for some reason, you finally awoke. A world achingly familiar yet distressingly alien greets you as you step from your overgrown tomb.
What will you do now, adventurer?
- Skill Proficiencies: You were skilled in many ways in the past. While time has deteriorated some of them, you can feel the skills that remain sharp.
You may choose two of the following:
- Perception
- Insight
- Diplomacy
- Intimidation
- Survival
Additionally, you automatically gain a circumstance +2 bonus to History if the check relates to your connections prior to your slumber.
- Tool Proficiencies: Though you were primarily skilled in combat, you dabbled in the arts. From celebration to idle curiosity, somehow you've retained some of those arbitrary skills through your absence.
You may choose one Toolset to be proficient with, additionally you may choose to be proficient with an instrument of your choice. The instrument can not originate from a time after you were cursed.
- Languages: You conversed regularly with members of neighboring villages or nations. Choose two non-exotic languages beyond your native tongue- Though your dated dialect may be difficult to understand.
- Equipment: Your original home and the chamber in which you were sealed were deteriorated beyond all recognition. All you own is what you carry upon your back, and a few hardy tributes that have survived the ages.
Two of the following items were found near where you awoke:
- A worn relic bearing the crest of your former clan or homeland
- 10 GP of a significantly dated design
- A +1 magical dagger in need of significant repair, bearing the familiar sigil of a former friend.
- Remnants of a letter addressed to you, seemingly salvageable by a skilled scholar or archivist.
- A magically sealed box that is significantly newer than all other items within your chamber. You are unable to pry it open.
- A well preserved scroll-tube containing components and hints at the research done about the curse laid upon you. The clues mean nothing to you without further investigation.
- A stone etched with curious designs. Names and dates that mean nothing to you are imprinted upon the surface.
Though you have been forgotten, it is you who knows what you once were. Your power has seeped from you as you slept, but above all else, YOU are the one who remembers your strength in the past. Through sheer force of will and an underlying rage at what was taken from you, you are able to drag a boost of your former power from the depths of your soul. Your aura flairs and those around you catch a glimpse of the titan that history overwrote.
You gain advantage on saving throws and attack rolls until the end of your next turn, per long rest.
Alternatively you gain advantage on skill checks for up to one minute outside of combat, per long rest.
Both may not be used in the same day.
