The wild has been your life for as long as you care to remember. You trained as a youth, studied the use of weapons and armor, followed the patterns of countless creatures, learned advanced survival techniques, including how to blend in to the environment. You may have been raised by animals yourself or just learned to hunt them over a long period.
When you choose this background, work with your DM to determine which biomes you were a part of, how long you remained there, and what kind of experiences you had during your hunting career. Did you hunt for sport, survival, vengeance, or any combination?

During your time as a hunter, you had a specific prey that you specialized in hunting. Roll a d8 or choose from the options in the table below to determine your prey:
d8 | Specialty |
---|---|
1 | Dragons |
2 | Constructs |
3 | Elementals |
4 | Sea Creatures |
5 | Forest Creatures |
6 | Fey |
7 | Fiends |
8 | Insects |
You have a reputation from your career as a hunter. Other hunters recognize your prowess and defer to your guidance if they are less experienced with that prey. You will also be asked by new and veteran hunters if you can regale them with tales of your greatest hunts. You will usually always be welcome in hunting lodges and taverns around the world wherever there is someone to recognize you.
Suggested Characteristics
The life of a Hunter can be a lonely one. Too often, a hunt can be ruined by too large a party chasing the same quarry. The very thing that makes you an excellent hunter, can also make you jaded and distant to fellow piers. Having spent most of your time in the wild, civilization feels out of place and uneasy to you.
