You're an expert with a dueling weapon and your reputation precedes you. Many towns and counties have known your feats of arms and many a noble family has reason to admire or hate you for it. Be it for honor, for sport, to settle gambling debts or to face the consequence of your seducing a high-born, you seem to have a knack to find yourself at dawn settling differences with your opponents in the middle of a field somewhere, and you've become quite good at it. So good in fact, that you regularly bring the wrong kind of attention to yourself and often have to leave a city or estate before the local authorities show up.
You may have a proud, but generous and romantic spirit (or maybe a vicious and violent disposition, making this just another excuse to kill), a taste for games of chance and the finer things in life, a good knowledge of the nobility and history of the great families of the kingdom, a functional grasp on heraldry, as well as a few other skills, including some less savory abilities. Your occupation can be that of teller of tall tales, a charming rogue, a disgraced aristocrat , a wandering ex-soldier with a past to forget or a revenge to take, an artist with a taste for adrenalin, or a more sinister executioner type: in all of these cases, you're a fighting man or woman, with a somewhat rebelious and adventuring streak and a string of dead and/or wounded in your wake.

You hire your blade to defend young noblemen's honor on the dueling field, or to provoke then execute designed victims. You do this either dispassionately or relishing the blood-shed (according to your nature/alignment), but in any case your name is anathema both to the "honorable" dueling community and the authorities.
You are either a former swordsman or soldierly type who gives preference to his penchant for gambling, or a professional gambler who acquired some serious skills with a blade. In both cases, your main priority is the game, the high-rolling life and the constant search for new table partners and new places to play. In this type of mischievous trade you often have to either defend your winnings or escape the swift justice of those injustly accusing you of cheating (in the words of the famous saying: "jealous tongues are like sharp blades, they always wag !").
