You were once just an ordinary noble. You collected taxes, held lavish parties, and participated in politics. To most, this life seems like a dream. Yes, perhaps. But to you, it was a rather dull dream. The novelty of coin slowly wore off. To you, riches were akin to molding bread; borderline worthless and as ordinary as can be. Soon even your ostentatious estates and your high class powdered wig became unbearably boring. It was then that they came to you. Your compatriots with an invitation to a dinner party. As it would be improper to refuse, you accept and arrive late in the day. The dinner goes as expected. You think about leaving until the host announces that it is time to bring out his finest vintage. Perhaps you thought it rude to refuse wine from the host. Or perhaps you just couldn’t refuse the insistent gaze that was given to you once you got up from your chair. Nonetheless, you drank the accursed vintage. It was like nothing you’ve ever tasted. Sweet at first with notes of a bitter, metallic undertone. Though peculiar at first, you enjoyed it. Craved more of it even. At the end of the night it was revealed to you what the secret to a great wine is. Blood. Human blood. You might have been appalled at this at first, but the craving kept drawing you back to the parties. Eventually you came to accept this new mocking thirst. And thus your boring life ended, and a monster was born.
