You are haunted by something so terrible that you dare not speak of it. You’ve tried to bury it and run away from it, to no avail. Whatever this thing is that haunts you can’t be slain with a sword or banished with a spell. It might come to you as a shadow on the wall, a bloodcurdling nightmare, a memory that refuses to die, or a demonic whisper in the dark. The burden has taken its toll, isolating you from most people and making you question your sanity. You must find a way to overcome it before it destroys you.
- Skill Proficiencies: Due to your past as a detective, you are naturally proficient in the skill Investigation. Because of the vast amount of research on various cults you did before the incident, you are proficient in the skill Religion.
- Languages: Choose two, one of which is exotic. (Abyssal, Celestial, Deep Speech, Draconic, Infernal, Primordial, Sylvan, or Undercommon)
- Equipment: A monster hunter’s pack[item],a set of common clothes[item] and 15 sp. You also have one sacrificial dagger. (what the sacrificial dagger does is in its description).
When investigating a cult suspected of being involved with several kidnappings, you yourself were captured. After being locked up for several days, you were brought to a special room where the cult attempted to use you as a vessel for their dark god. They stab your heart with the dagger allowing you to absorb some of its power. They also infuse the blood of an ancient demon with yours to try and make you a perfect host. You were able to use the dagger stabbed in your heart as well as your newfound strength to kill all the cultists there and escape. Unfortunately, due to the ritual, you are no longer what you once were. Your race is now a Tiefling with only small details hinting at what you once were.
