Fey Royal Guard

Fey primarily exist within two main courts: the Seelie or "Blessed" Court, who were known to be more benevolent to outsiders and often favored spells of conjuration and elemental fire magic, and the Unseelie or "Unblessed" Court, who were known to be more malevolent to outsiders and often favored spells of storm and cold elemental magic. All fey, including the two main courts, were innately drawn illusory and nature magic.

These High Courts were usually broken down further into what it know as the Seasonal Courts. Each of these courts reflect the spirit of the world during the time of its rule, and are aligned or attuned to one of the four elements. The Seelie were mainly lead by the Summer court with the Spring court as a steady ally. The Unseelie were comprised of the Winter and Autumn courts with the latter deferring to the former.

The Summer Court fey are generally considered more polite, though still very capable of cruelty that is harsh, but subtle. They have free reign over summer solstice and spring equinox months, and are strongest during that time. The members of this court are fierce, bold and energetic, being associated with the element of fire. Their patron deity is Pelor.

The Spring Court fey are generally bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and curious. These fey are more apt to lure humans in with sweet dew. The members of this court are strongest during the ends of winter and throughout the spring season, despite the Summer Court having reigned. These fey are cheerful, optimistic and peaceful, being associated with the element of water. Their patron deity is Sehanine.

The Winter Court fey typically frown upon the sentient races of the Material Plane, especially humans. They're more inclined to talk about their open cruelty. This tends make them seem evil to non-fey. The members of this court have free reign over winter solstice and autumn equinox months and are strongest during that time. These fey are aloof, harsh and unforgiving, being associated with the element or air. Their patron deity is the Raven Queen.

The Autumn Court fey are generally the ones doing the "dirty work" and "trooping". However, these fey can have a much nicer side than any of the others and are known to return great favors. The members of this court are strongest during the ends of summer and throughout the autumn season. These fey are patient, reflective, and wise, being associated with the element of earth. Their patron deity is Corellon.

Outside these courts reside the Shadow Court and the Courtless. As one might expect, the Courtless are fey who prefer to go about their own business and not get involved in the politics of the Courts. They may still be found in small groups mixed within the Seelie and Unseelie, but have a neutral relationship between the two. Living a solitary life can be simple and good in some respect, but because they have chosen to be cut off from the larger support network, social interaction with others is not as available. Even so, these fey can find a means of interacting with others and often act as an intermediary for interactions between the Feywild and the Material Plane. Courtless are usually unpredictable and have been seen as the outcasts—either banished or choosing to leave. There are not many that regret becoming Courtless.

The Shadow Court fey differ from all others in that they are willing and able to do things that not even the Unseelie fey deign to dabble in. The Feywild is home to both dreams and nightmares and none more personify the latter than the Shadow Courts. Nebulous and not well understood, existing on the fringes of the realm are creatures of darkness and gloom. It is said that Lolth reigns over these enigmatic lands and creatures, though rumors spread that there may be some influence from the other fey gods as well. Although the shadow realm exists within the Feywild, most things that come from it are not considered to be fey in nature. The members of this court use shadow magic which requires a sacrifice of part of oneself to the shadow in exchange for the ability to shape it or to gain from the dark benefits it offers.

Being from the Feywild, you are more familiar with its denizens, their bizarre customs, strange manners, and frequent shifts in logic than most. When interacting with fey, you can keep up with them as easily as others can with those from the Material Plane. Also, when encountering a common Fey creature in combat, you are immediately aware of it's immunities and weaknesses. The DM can decide if the creature is too powerful or rare for you to have encountered.
