You were in the Froststone mine incident. Somehow you evaded destruction and managed to infect one of the survivors. Through luck or skill you evaded detection until you had completely bonded to your host. Taking them over mind, body, and perhaps soul. Well beyond the point of being purged you have come to a new form of understanding. A sentience you did not truly have before. The curse that spread the infection faded days after you consumed your host, creating a stable bond.
You have no love for your creators, who tried to destroy you when they couldn't control you. So now you exist as your own entity, with your own drives and intentions. As far as you know, the only one of your kind.

As an action, you can change your appearance and your voice. You determine the specifics of the changes, including your coloration, hair length, and sex. You can also adjust your height and weight, but not so much that your size changes. You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your game statistics change. You can’t duplicate the appearance of a creature you’ve never seen, and you must adopt a form that has the same basic arrangement of limbs that you have. Your clothing and equipment aren’t changed by this trait.
You stay in the new form until you use an action to revert to your true form or until you die
