you may have kidnapped, or interrogated people who have been captured. you could be a bounty hunter, a sort of police officer, or a ransom holder. whatever the case, you have taken people somewhere against they're free will, and they're probably pretty mad about it. a rogue is an obvious choice for this background, but you could also be a righteous paladin who hunts down criminals. don't be afraid to to combine your magical might with this background. spells like sleep, hold person, or fog cloud might be especially useful. one last thing. you can add a little spice to your game with the aftershocks of this background. Perhaps the aggressive sharn watch officer who arrested your party might have once been the scared little girl you kidnapped for the money to save your families farm!
