Spy (The Harpers) Image

Little is known about the Moonstars, even within the Harpers. Only one person knows all the members of this elite network of Harper spies: its leader, Alustriel Silverhand, the Chosen of Mystra and one of the Seven Sisters.

If you were favored with membership in the Moonstars, your entire life was laid bare before Alustriel Silverhand at one point, and you were found to be a loyal servant of the Harpers with a particular set of skills. Betraying the Moonstars is considered high treason, and defectors are hunted down and quickly brought to justice.

Most defectors from the Moonstars flee to the Far North, beyond the reach of the Harpers. If you are a member of the Moonstars going on adventures, you are either a traitor who has somehow managed to keep your true identity secret from the greatest spies in the North—or you are still on active duty. In the latter case, you can work with your DM to figure out why you are traveling with outside adventurers.

Faction Specialty

There are many kinds of spies, and within a covert faction or similar organization, individual members have particular specialties. Even spies who operate outside of such organizations have strong preferences for certain kinds of tradecraft over others. Choose the role you played in your life as a spy, or roll on the table below.

d8 Faction Specialty
1 Counterintelligence
2 Acquisitions

4 Handler
5 Infiltrator

Feature: Faction Contact

You have a reliable and trustworthy contact who acts as your liaison to a network of your faction's members. You know how to get messages to and from your contact, even over great distances; specifically, you know the local messengers, sympathetic caravan masters, and trustworthy sailors who can deliver messages for you.

Suggested Characteristics

Your bond might be associated with other members of your faction, or a location or an object that is important to your faction. The ideal you strive for is probably in keeping with the tenets and principles of your faction, but might be more personal in nature.

3 If there’s a plan, I’ll forget it. If I don’t forget it, I’ll ignore it.
4 In my hubris I tend to leave a signature after completing a mission.
5 I turn tail and run when things look bad.
