- Skill Proficiencies: Medicine, Survival, and one of your choice.
- Tool Proficiencies: Herbalism kit, Poisoner's kit
- Equipment: A healer's kit or an herbalism kit (your medical toolkit from your practice), 3 needles, a spool of thread, four clean rags, a scalpel, a vial, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp.
As a medical professional, you are familiar with the symptoms of sickness and disease. You can quickly evaluate if someone is suffering from poison or disease and know the exact treatment needed to cure it (you may use your medical toolkit to apply the correct treatment). Alternatively, you also recognize the difference between natural causes for diseases and magical ones. You can quickly evaluate is someone is suffering from a curse, and can determine the spell that would be needed to break it. Your DM may rule that an illness or curse you come across is a new or an unfamiliar strain, making it difficult to discern the exact treatment.
Common folk who do not have access to healing by divine or magical means will seek you out if they hear you are in town. They may pay you with coin or with their hospitality, giving you a hot meal and a room for the night as payment for their medical needs.
Suggested Characteristics
Medical professionals understand that healing requires getting their hands dirty, and that they can only do so much to help someone else. Some may be haunted by their failures, the lives they couldn't save, or the risks they took to save someone that cost them dearly. On the other hand, the joy of helping save a life or easing someone's pain may be enough reward in itself.
