Inexperienced Adventurer Image

Whether in a new plane of existence, integrating into a new culture, adventuring through foreign lands, or experiencing the world through a naive lens, being passionately into something evokes a reaction from those around you. If you've never seen a delicacy before, you might get one for free, if you've never seen a game before, perhaps a local will spend some minutes explaining it to you, and if your parents are in grave danger, perhaps the entire local area will rally in protection of the small child's parents who some wall-punching life-ruining table-smashing drunkee decided to fight, at the discretion of your DM of course.

Might be more refined in the future, but for now it's good enough. As it is now, this requires a lot of collaboration with the DM, especially when talking about the equipment. Please let them check it over first.

Skill Proficiencies: 2 skills of any kind, talk with your DM
Tool Proficiencies: 1 of any tool, talk with your DM
Languages: Common and 1 of any other language, talk with your DM
Equipment: A set of clothes depending on where you're from, any 1 tool, a letter from someone you know or knew, and an amount of gold your DM decides is appropriate   |    All your equipment is closely tied to your past, let your DM know

Curious Origin

Everyone comes from somewhere, whether they are a normal man, a shadowy figure, an interdimensional being, or a figure made from shadows. If everyone seems foreign to you, it's likely the same reason you're foreign to them, and that reason can be decided on this chart, or you could make something more creative that I couldn't come up with and you'd tell me so I could steal it.

d8 Curious Origin
1 Your parents decided you could go adventuring, but you barely know what you're doing, so you follow the lead of more experienced adventurers until you can find your niche.
2 You were in a different plane of existence, and now you're not. Rather than freak out about your surroundings, maybe it's better to learn about this world while you're here. Perhaps you'll even find a way back.
3 You wake up in a familiar area, but when you try to speak it's name, it barely eludes you. As you rediscover yourself, your face might light up as you get the hang of things that feel familiar, and perhaps are. If I didn't get the point across, you're a recovering amnesiac.
4 Just a normal guy. Has to make money somehow ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
5 You're a mysterious child. No one knows why you're here. You're just so cute though! *heart eyes*
6 Look up the Verdan race. I came up with this background because nothing else could quite fit with a strange new creature spawning by some rocks and becoming hopelessly attached to the first person they see.
7 My race sent me here to learn more about this world. I never knew that the life of a scout is this exciting!
8 Where I'm from, curiosity killed the cat. I'm the cat, and where I'm from is long behind me.

Feature: Puppy Eyes

Your wide and curious eyes allow you to fish favors from those inclined to cuteness. People might adore you enough to help you, and even take up arms to fight alongside you, should you find yourself facing some bastard who might attack such an innocent person.

Suggested Characteristics

You have learned to use your innocence to your advantage. Sometimes, however, your speech will land flat, not quite resonating with a certain type of person.

d8 Personality Trait
1 My naivety leads me to be painfully blunt when speaking.
2 This world around me is foreign, not just to sight, but maybe even to touch, smell, hearing, and taste.
3 Greetings, gratitude, and graciousness are thought of differently where I'm from.
4 It is a quirk of mine to only ever speak in rhyme. Talk to your DM first or your group may suffer a massive curse!
5 I have a happy little jig that tends to make others laugh.
6 I can relate any situation to a story from my childhood, from fairytales to personal experiences.
7 I prefer not to get close with people I'm going to split away from later.
8 I'm worried about offending the locals, and leave the dialogue to someone else.
d6 Ideal
1 Role Model. My momma always told me there isn't a life that ain't worth saving. (Good)
2 Necessity. I need to get back what I've lost, whether it is my home or memory. (Any)
3 Indulgence. A good time is a time worth living. (Any)
4 Extreme. If this is a dream, I'm not passing my chance to treat it like one. (Chaotic)
5 Adaptability. No matter where I am or what I'm doing, information is a valuable resource. (Lawful)
6 Strength. If I become strong, I can have whatever I want. (Evil)
d6 Bond
1 The people I'm with have introduced me to this world, I am ever grateful for it.
2 I have to find my way home/what happened to me/some lost object.
3 I have someone who waits for my return. I'll make sure to come back to them.
4 I carry a memento of home in my equipment. If it were to disappear, I'd find it.
5 I don't know who or what, but it's here and I have to find it.
6 This new world is too great to let go.
d6 Flaw
1 I have yet to understand the value of money, and make mistakes based on such.
2 I sometimes assume harmless creatures to be harmful, or even worse, harmful creatures to be harmless.
3 My face gives away everything the enemy needs to know.
4 I don't know any of my surroundings, so I don't trust any of my surroundings. That includes people.
5 In times of weakness, I might convince myself that these roads are no place for a child/normal person/etc...
6 I might overindulge in a brand of luxuries either close to me or completely foreign (such as sweets from a child's viewpoint, or from an otherworlder's viewpoint).
