The Dúnedain ("Man of the West") were a race of Men descended from the Númenóreans who survived the sinking of their island kingdom and came to Eriador in Middle-earth, led by Elendil and his sons, Isildur and Anárion. They are also called Men of Westernesse (translated from the Sindarin term). They settled in Arnor and Gondor. The name Dúnedain was reserved to Númenóreans who were friendly to the Elves: hostile survivors of the Downfall were known as Black Númenóreans.

Your rugged appearance may fool the ignorant, but those who know of your ancestry know you to be a beacon of hope and strength. You can reveal your origins to others through a name, a title, a symbol or weapon you carry or other means. Wherever your Númenoran descent is known, people are inclined to think the best of you. You are welcome in high society, and people assume you have the right to be wherever you are. The common folk make every effort to accommodate you and avoid your displeasure, and other people of high birth treat you as a member of the same social sphere. You can secure an audience with a local noble if you need to.
In moments of direst need, you can invoke the commanding aura of kings long gone. Using this feature, you can give yourself advantage on a Persuasion check against a creature that is not wholly hostile towards you, or an Intimidation check against a hostile creature. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your profiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses of it when you finish a long rest.

The Rangers were two secretive, independent groups of Dúnedain of the North (Arnor) and South (Ithilien, in Gondor) in the Third Age. Like their Númenórean ancestors, they had qualities like those of the Elves, with keen senses and the ability to understand the language of birds and beasts. They were trackers and hardy warriors who defended their respective areas from evil forces.
You have the ability to communicate in a limited manner with beasts and plants. They can understand the meaning of your words, though you have no special ability to understand them in return. You have advantage on all Charisma checks you make to influence them.
