Restarts had a life they would rather not think on.

With only the clothes on their backs and little else, they set out on a journey to forget.

Their name gifted by their parents often pains them, so many gift themselves another, or take on one that strangers or allies give.

Some grew bored of their lives. Others afraid. Others feel they did something unforgiveable, and so seek to become someone other than who they were.

Often they will learn other tongues, if not already fluent in, rather helpful for fitting in around those who speak the far less exotic tongues, or further confusing their past with tongues both exotic and not.

Skill Proficiencies: Any two skill proficiencies.
Languages: Any two languages.
Equipment: A set of Common, Traveler's, or Fine Clothes

False Background

Your history is one you are not keen to talk about. That said, it can help to have something to say if anyone asks.

Choose another background, or roll 1d6 to choose between the six in the Basic Rules. Though not truly your Background, nor one you benefit from, tis what you tend to often claim when others ask about your past.

When choosing a false background instead of rolling to decide, you are not limited to backgrounds on the d6 table.

d6 False Background
1 Acolyte
2 Criminal/Spy
3 Folk Hero
4 Noble
5 Sage
6 Soldier

Feature: Reputation Redo

Your drive for a new life makes even bad relationships seem better than none to speak of, even if for no other reason than to better establish a presence as who you are now.

When performing the Carousing Downtime Activity, if you make no new Contacts, you can roll 1d4, making 1 Hostile Contact on 1, 1 Allied Contact on 2, 2 Allied Contacts on 3, and 3 Allied Contacts on 4.

Suggested Characteristics

Oft polite and civilized in the eyes of most, Restarts care little for all that they left, and can be wary of growing attatched at times... and often consider tribes, clans, and blood relations less important, and at times even less legitimate, than other forms of relations.

d8 Personality Trait
1 I adore a place when I first reach it, but can grow tired of it over time... or even resentful
2 I trust those I work with will typically be competent and able to care for themselves well, and hold no fear in not knowing what or how they're doing.
3 I once ran twenty-five miles without stopping with an orc horde, trading tales the whole way, only to leave without another word as soon as we finished.
4 I try and divine some lesson from every situation I find myself in, even if I must make one up myself.
5 I know how money and manners can help one get their way. Whether you arr paying a passage toll or just asking for directions, the glints of gold and a smile can do wonders.
6 I am cautious enough with my own things, and even moreso with others'.
7 I find the forest dwellers less than kind to me. People you can reason with, but not so much owlbears.
8 I've nearly been fed to hounds on at least one occasion, perhaps more, and I might claim it was more, or less, times than it was.
d6 Ideal
1 New Life. I refuse to return to who I was, no matter how many people that is. (Chaotic)
2 Forgiveness. I know well what is and is not irredeemable and unforgivable, and that is vanishingly little. (Good)
3 Earned Trust. Nobody, not even those who brought you into this world, are free from expectation to do right by you. (Lawful)
4 Disattatchment. Nobody can hurt me if everybody is nobody to me. (Evil)
5 Nurture. What is outside us matters more than what is inside us, and it is also more easily changed. (Neutral)
6 Rebirth. The past is a weight upon all, but any chance to lighten it is glorious. (Any)
d6 Bond
1 Those I once called family, clan, or tribe pain me to think about, and no doubt would think and feel quite a bit were any to see me again...
2 Any blow to my former home gives me hope that my past might one day be black smoke scattering through the winds.
3 Someday I will bring terrible wrath upon my homeland.
4 My tribe is expansive to the point that one would be hard pressed to avoid them in day to day life, as much as I wish that I could...
5 I enjoy awe-filled visions of a distant salvation, and will do anything to achieve it.
6 I have found that I and the most youthful do not get along well at all.
d6 Flaw
1 I get nervous aroud alchohols and those who partake in them.
2 I am so fearful of repeating the errors of my past past selves that it can sway me from a reasonable risk.
3 My memory has little room for those I spend some time parted from, no matter how important they are likely to be to my future.
4 I often feel undeserving of the trust that others give me.
5 I can be slow to strike anyone who hasn't gone for me first.
6 I can be so eager to help someone that I can fail to see they don't need it, or even that my help isn't really helping.
