The availability of magic means of communication across very long distances has offered the Wykepedia a unique opportunity to learn more about the what is going on in the world. The 4th estate desk was created to send capable agents into the field, sometimes very far afield, and have them report back on a regular basis. In this way the Wyke can learn first hand what is going on around the world in real time. Agents are sent into the field with a magical device called a sending stone. These 2 linked stones allow communication between a field agent and a handler once per day. Handlers then transcribe the reports that are send in and publish a weekly Scroll called the Weekly World News. Field agents are expected to respect local cultures and traditions and comport themselves as a diplomatic envoy. Yet, they are also expected to report back only the absolute, unvarnished truth. These two mandates sometimes fall at odds and when that does the Truth should win out.
Field agents travel via mundane or magical means to their destination. They are expected to fend for themselves when on assignment but if they are ever in serious trouble there is a secret phrase that they can Send to the Wyke. The Wyke will then respond with a rescue mission to the best of its ability but agents have an understanding that they accept an amount of risk n their assignments.
- Skill Proficiencies: In order to ferret out a story you gain either Investigation or Insight, plus your need to coax people to tell tehir story has taught you Persuasion
- Tool Proficiencies: Your travels have given you proficiency with Navigator’s tools
- Languages: One of your choice
- Equipment: Navigator’s tools, a set of traveler’s clothes, a map of the area you are assigned to, a handbook on succinct messaging, Ink, pen and a journal.
Once per day when you declare an insight check to tell if someone is lying you may roll with advantage and the target will not know that they have been caught in a lie.
