In a kingdom of your choosing you joined the city guard (or served as a soldier) at a young age. You trained and worked your way through the ranks eventually being noticed by the king for your prowess in combat and cool head under pressure. You journey now as an adventurer after failing in your oath, watching your once beloved king cut down in front of you. Being powerless in that moment, the attackers leader left you alive to live with your grief, your sorrow, your failure. Work with your DM to determine the 2 nations involved with this background.
- Skill Proficiencies: Proficient in Perception and choose one out of Acrobatics, Animal Handling, Athletics, Intimidation, or Survival.
- Tool Proficiencies: Land Vehicle proficiency
- Languages: Choose 2 languages
- Equipment: Fine clothes, insignia of the kings guard, an item of remembrance that once belonged to your king (broken weapon, ruined piece of armor, the kings insignia, a braid of hair, be creative), any simple or martial weapon, choose an armor type that you are proficient in and pick any common armor in that bracket (this armor has the kings guard crest upon the torso), a holy symbol or arcane focus if your class requires one of these for casting spells, a pouch containing 25 gp.
Anyone considered to be an ally that would recognize the symbol of the position you once held tend to be more willing to listen to your words and be more friendly (advantage on any charisma checks to these allies, if you are not proficient in any charisma checks then add your PB, if you are already proficient then double the PB for the check), such allies will be more likely to join you on the battlefield if asked to take up arms. On the opposite side any enemies that would recognize the symbol of your position will be far less likely to listen to your words and be far less friendly (disadvantage on any charisma checks to such enemies), these enemies are also more likely to target you in combat as being the one to strike the killing blow on such as a body guard to a enemy king would be a good way to instill fear and command respect from his allies (if you are knocked unconscious in battle with any of these foes then they will all stop at nothing until they are sure your life has been thoroughly ended, any of these enemies that recognize your symbol will cease their attacks on anyone else and completely focus you until your dead or have been healed).

1: I will never again fail at defending those fighting beside me.
2: My oath is broken, my only redemption is to die in most glorious battle.
3: Not even Bhaal himself could keep me from taking my revenge against those that killed my king.
4: I must never forget my shame, it is my eternal punishment for failing my oath.
