Enforcer Image

You have done the dirty work of powerful individuals for years. If someone wanted to send a hard message, they called you to leverage your brutish tactics. Nothing speaks louder than kicking down doors and pulverizing the unfortunate souls who crossed the wrong person. Inciting fear was the point. Causing pain was your specialty.

Skill Proficiencies: Athletics, Intimidation
Tool Proficiencies: One type of gaming set or thieves' tools
Languages: One of your choice
Equipment:mace or greatclub, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 15 gp

Employer

Shady people in any echelon of society might have relied upon your thuggish talents. You might have been a street thug in a gang protecting your turf from the encroachment of local rivals. Perhaps you worked for a wealthy merchant to force out the competition. Or, you might have even operated under the direction of a nobleman to quell dissenters. If they had the means, you had the muscle. They paid; you punished.

You might still work for them, or maybe you moved on from that lifestyle long ago. Choose the one who hired you, or roll on the table below.

d8 Employer
1 Bounty hunters guild (Bounty hunter)
2 Crafting guild (Faction agent)
3 Crime boss (Leg-breaker)
4 Local baron, count, or noble (Bodyguard)
5 Street gang (Gangster)
6 The church (Inquisitor)
7 Town guard (Constabulary)
8 Wealthy merchant (Negotiator)

Feature: Muscle for Hire

You have little issue finding work that fits your skill set in civilized society. You might be a bouncer for an inn or tavern, a bodyguard for a wealthy benefactor, or accept a different job that requires a person of your caliber. In any case, you receive enough compensation to afford a modest or comfortable lifestyle (depending on the quality of the benefactor) as long as you work each day. At the DM's discretion, you and your companions might even be offered a quest to terrorize an unfortunate individual, or do some other kind of dirty work, which could grant you greater rewards for success.

Suggested Characteristics

A successful enforcer is a brawny enforcer in most cases. Many enforcers prefer that others do the thinking for them so that they can do what they do best—beating people up—and on their own they tend to act first and think later. Some enforcers feel an intense loyalty to their employer, while others solely do it for the money and would betray their colleagues as soon as they get a better offer.
