You’ve spent much of your life with your eyes locked upon the heavens. Whether you are a student, a scholar, or simply a deeply curious individual, the study of celestial bodies has strongly captivated your interest. Your dedicated observation has given you an intimate knowledge of the night sky, and you know the stars like you would your own home.
- Skill Proficiencies: Your choice of two; Arcana, History, Nature, Survival, Perception
- Tool Proficiencies: A language of your choice, and either Navigator’s Tools or Cartographer’s Tools
- Equipment: Your choice of Navigator’s Tools or Cartographer’s Tools, a journal of your observations and discoveries, a simple writing implement (ie charcoal, graphite, a quill and ink), an abacus, a spyglass, a star map within a case, a lamp, a flask of oil, a set of common clothes, a pouch containing 10gp
Your study and observations of the night sky offer you unique navigational insights. Given knowledge of any two of the following, you have the ability to ascertain the third:
- Approximate date and/or time
- Approximate location
- Positioning of celestial bodies
Suggested Characteristics
Astronomers have dedicated much of their time to their studies and observations. The object of their scholarly devotion, however, is grounded in the physical world as much as it is a conceptual pursuit. The motivation behind their interest is as varied as the very people who make up their area of study and can range from the practical exploratory navigator to the metaphysical student of divination.
d8 | Personality Trait |
---|---|
1 | I never go anywhere without the means to record new information and spend much of my time with my nose in a journal and a quill in hand. |
2 | I am horribly, horribly awkward in most social situations. |
3 | There’s nothing quite like the feeling of making new discoveries and solving long-time mysteries. So much out there, waiting to be discovered! |
4 | The insights that the movements of celestial bodies have afforded me into the inner workings of the world make charming people second nature! I’m a bit of a social butterfly. |
5 | The nature of my studies has taken me far and wide. As a result, I’ve accrued an eclectic bunch of items and ideals from many cultures. |
6 | My discoveries are kept a closely-guarded secret. You never know who might be lurking nearby, intent upon stealing that hard-earned knowledge! |
7 | My passion for the stars and planets consumes much of my time and energy. Other areas of life are often secondary to those interests. |
8 | I’ve spent much of my life within the quiet confines of a library, observatory, or other academic institution. I am not very well versed in the world beyond those walls. |

Your studies have stretched beyond the realm of observation of the stars, and into the realm of divination based upon them. Observation of the heavens can give you clues as to the machinations of the world around you, allowing you to read horoscopes and offer minor predictions. The Feature “Astral Navigator” is replaced with “Astral Auspice”, and you can replace the Navigator’s or Cartographer’s tools in your equipment with a set of artisan’s tools or gaming set of your choice.
Once per day, you can read the positions of celestial bodies and attempt to ascertain an omen or predilection for the events of the following 24 hours. Your reading will result in one of four foretokens:
Propitious - Positive outcome
Inimical - Negative outcome
Sundry - Mixed outcome
Wonted - Neutral outcome
