In a world with flying mount and magic, it shouldn't be surprising to see people trained in the art of flight aboard said flying mounts or other means of aerial transportation. This background asume you spent some time in a context that would of made you be in charge of; steering, taking care or otherwise be involved with either a flying mount or flying vehicle, wether that has has an airline pilot or a military officer in an army or garnison is up to you and your DM's discretion.

 
Skill Proficiencies: You gain proficiency with the animal handling skill has you might of had to handle flying mounts in the past, if already proficient in it make it an expertise.
Tool Proficiencies: You main gain proficiency with either Navigator's Tools or Cartographer tools.
Languages: Has you spent a considerable amount of time in the air you may of had to deal with some creatures or elemental that did not speak Common but rather Primordial(Auran), has such you yourself learnt the primordial language of the plane of air.
Equipment: a set of Navigator's Tools,50 feet of silk rope, a lucky charm such as a rabbit foot or a small stone with a hole in the center (or you may roll for a random trinket on the Trinkets table in chapter 5), a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp
 
Rank while on active duty

You can choose or roll wich rank would apply to you after having served either in a military capacity (Airman) or civilian capacity (Aviator). The different rank don't give you any advantage other than the respect of others that served in the same capacity has you and how NPC's will adress you if they are aware of your rank.

Feature: Airship's Passage

When you need to, you can secure free passage on a flying ship or flying mounts for yourself and your adventuring companions. You might fly on the airship you served on, or another airship you have good relations with (perhaps one captained by a former crewmate). Because you’re calling in a favor, you can’t be certain of a schedule or route that will meet your every need. Your Dungeon Master will determine how long it takes to get where you need to go. In return for your free passage, you and your companions are expected to assist the crew during the voyage or in the case of flying mounts to take care of their needs for a certain period of time before or after the voyage.

 
Spell List

Many aviator'S fear is loosing their crew to a strong and sudden wind throwing them overboard or dismounting them, has such most Aviator decide to learn some spell related to flight and winds for added safety.

you can cast those spells ignoring the material component if cast with this background.

 
Suggested Characteristics

Aviator view the world from a different perspective has most other people do and has such they usually tend to see the bigger picture of things. some good characteristics would be things that would make your character appreciate life and be aware that danger is around every corner if not carefull.
