Perhaps you were too careless, made an enemy of the wrong person, or maybe it was written in the stars and out of your control. Whatever the reason, you have found yourself on the opposite side of the living. Face to face with death itself, you managed to find your way back to the realm of mortals. However nothing gets that close to the grim reaper and comes back the same. That experience has left its indelible mark on your soul and you can constantly feel death's gaze, like a hunter waiting for their wounded prey to fall. Alternatively, having crossed over the mortal boundary and back has given you a certain attunement to the loss of life, as if each death of those around you prolongs your inevitable second and final end.
- Skill Proficiencies: Arcana, Insight
- Tool Proficiencies: Your choice of Alchemist's Supplies, Calligrapher's Supplies, Jeweler's Tools, or Herbalism Kit
- Languages: Infernal
- Equipment: A death mark, a set of artisan's tools, a set of common clothes, an Arcane Focus, and a pouch containing 5 gp
Feature: Death Boon
Every death of the beings in your vicinity puts one more soul between you and the judge of the damned. Feeding off that raw negative energy, you are revitalized and bolstered in action. In combat, when any living being dies within 30 feet of you, you may regain hit points equal to half your character level rounded up and may immediately make a reaction. The reaction must be used immediately and cannot be stored for later in the combat round.
Suggested Characteristics
Death should be the end of every mortal's journey. The rare few that experience death and manage to find their way back to the living do not come back the same. Some are changed for the better, relishing in the second opportunity they have been given, while others degrade into madness, incapable of processing what they have seen. Eccentricity and erratic behavior are common since for the death touched, nothing will ever truly be normal again.
