Apprentice Image

You studied under a skilled and wise master in the past. This apprenticeship may have been something you were forced into as a child, or perhaps something you sought out later in life. As an apprentice, you learned much of what you know now from your master, though they are no longer a part of your personal journey.

Skill Proficiencies: Two of your choice
Tool Proficiencies: One artisan’s tool or instrument of your choice
Equipment: An instrument or artisan’s tool that you are proficient with, a letter written by your master acknowledging your potential, a set of traveler’s clothes, and a pouch containing 5 gp.

Master’s Absence

For one reason or another, your master is no longer a part of your journey; why is that? Work with your DM to determine the nature of their absence, or pick one of the reasons listed in the table below!

d8 Master’s Absence
1 My master has disappeared.
2 I must seek out an item or overcome a great challenge before I can continue my training.
3 I disagreed with my master’s methods and left on my own accord.
4 My master decided that it was time for me to forge my own path.
5 I was expelled from my master’s tutelage due to breaking an important rule.
6 My master was murdered by a rival, a former apprentice, or by me.
7 My master believes I must find a different master who can continue teaching me.
8 I did not live up to my potential, and so my master ended the apprenticeship.

Feature: Teacher’s Wisdom

Your master didn’t only share their knowledge and skills, but also their wisdom. At the DM’s discretion, whenever you succeed on a skill check with a skill you’re proficient in, you may recall words of wisdom from your master regarding the subject. This may include a recommended course of action, a probable outcome or something else.
