Endrassi Agent Image

You are a member of an elite group of superhuman soldiers. You were indoctrinated into the Endrassi College as a child, went through genetic tests to determine whether or not you had the potential for forced evolution, were taught to use all types of weapons, including how to improvise a weapon in the heat of battle. You might have been assigned to defending the Empire and its interests, or perhaps sent on a covert mission somewhere across the world.

When you choose this background, work with your DM to determine which operation you are a part of, how far through its ranks you progressed, and what assignment has placed you in this position. Are you still employed as an Endrassi? Or did you run away, using your skills and abilities for personal gain? Either way, the only retirement for an Endrassi is death.

Skill Proficiencies: Athletics, Religion
Tool Proficiencies: One type of gaming set, martial weapons
Equipment: An insignia of rank, a trophy taken from a fallen enemy (a dagger, broken blade, or piece of a banner), a set of bone dice or deck of cards, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp

Trauma

Most Endrassi come out of the college with deep, psychological trauma. Roll a d8 or choose from the option below.

d8 Trauma
1 Fear of isolation
2 Abandonment
3 Loss of a sense (Sight, Hearing, etc.)
4 Depression
5 Anxiety
6 Paranoia
7 Apathy
8 Psychosis

Feature: Superhuman

As a child, potential Endrassi are put through several magical tests as an attempt to enhance them beyond what is normally possible. Most students of the college fail these tests, and are left deformed or dead, but those that succeed are rewarded with a superhuman ability. You gain a random feat.

Suggested Characteristics

The horrors of war combined with the childhood trauma from the Endrassi College leave their mark on all agents, shaping their ideals, creating strong bonds, and often leaving them scarred and vulnerable to fear, shame, and hatred.

d8 Personality Trait
1 I’m always polite and respectful.
2 I’m haunted by memories of war. I can’t get the images of violence out of my mind.

d6 Ideal
1 Greater Good. Our lot is to lay down our lives in defense of others. (Good)
2 Responsibility. I do what I must and obey just authority. (Lawful)
3 Independence. When people follow orders blindly, they embrace a kind of tyranny. (Chaotic)
4 Might. In life as in war, the stronger force wins. (Evil)
5 Live and Let Live. Ideals aren’t worth killing over or going to war for. (Neutral)
6 Nation. My city, nation, or people are all that matter. (Any)
d6 Bond
1 I would still lay down my life for the people I served with.
2 Someone saved my life on the battlefield. To this day, I will never leave a friend behind.
3 My honor is my life.
4 I’ll never forget the crushing defeat my company suffered or the enemies who dealt it.
5 Those who fight beside me are those worth dying for.
6 I fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.
d6 Flaw
1 The monstrous enemy we faced in battle still leaves me quivering with fear.
2 I have little respect for anyone who is not a proven warrior.
3 I made a terrible mistake in battle that cost many lives—and I would do anything to keep that mistake secret.
4 My hatred of my enemies is blind and unreasoning.
5 I obey the law, even if the law causes misery.
6 I’d rather eat my armor than admit when I’m wrong.

Variant Endrassi Agent: Deserter

During your career as an Endrassi, something pushed you to desert from your duty. Maybe it was fear, love, or even just a want to do something else. Unfortunately, to desert from the Endrassi is a death sentence, which your old allies are usually more than happy to oblige.

Variant Feature: Fearmonger

If your character has a fearmonger background, you may select this background feature as well as superhuman.

Despite deserting, most members of society are still afraid of an Endrassi. Especially one that is not connected to any army. You can use this fear to simple aid from most people, afraid of evoking your wrath. But be warned, if your past is discovered by an Endrassi, they will usually attempt to arrest you.
