You don't remember this, but you were once divinity, channeling the forces of creation and destruction in your chosen domain. While once you were an immortal being with followers and known throughout the realms, jealous usurpers have shattered your power, thrown you from your throne, and cast you into the mortal realm. They have worked to erase the memory of your religion, although small pockets of worshipers may exist hidden away while your temples are ruins across the land.
Your mind is split. You don't remember your role in the pantheon, but the unconscious drives of forgotten divinity push you towards your quest to regain what was lost to you. As power cannot be destroyed, only repurposed, your enemies split your divinity and hid it across the realms. While your mortal mind doesn't know why, you seek to obtain these vestiges of power to regain your divinity. Now you are a hero, worshiping a God that only you can remember.
You carry with you a magical item that represents your connection to divinity. Perhaps you are a paladin with a greatsword created by . A warlock with an ancient amulet to this forgotten God. A Paladin with a holy symbol, unrecognized by many. A Rogue with a whispering ring, pushing you to find the truth hidden in the darkness. This is the first relic of your divinity that you must collect to ascend once again and take back what was stolen from you.
However, those who threw you down are wary of your return. They cannot see you directly, but may be working against your efforts through their own influences.
- Skill Proficiencies: Insight, Religion
- Languages: You know celestial, primordial, and infernal in addition to the languages known by your host body's race.
- Equipment: You carry an artifact that is bound to you. If it is lost or stolen, you have an innate sense of where it is--regardless of the plane of existence you are on.
Not knowing where you're from, you gain the ability to regain your memories, until you've gained 2 skill proficiencies and 2 tool proficiencies this way.
Whenever you have to roll for a skill or tool check that you don't have proficiency in yet, if you roll a 18 or higher on your dice, you now gain proficiency in this skill. You also gain the new skill proficiency modifier on top of this roll. (e.g. You rolled a 19 on your dice, your old skill modifier was a +1, you now use your new modifier which is a +3, so 19 + 3 = 22)
You can't learn another proficiency in a skill or language this way within the same day.
