With such vast open territory, and extraordinary items and riches in far away lands, it is necessary for the seafaring trades to flourish.  Many are inducted into guilds or companies as seafaring traders and learn the ways of the sea and foreign lands.

You started off your life as a seafaring trader, learning how to crew a ship and bargain for goods.  If you are human you fit in well. As another race, you may have served a special purpose or been an outsider for much of your career.  Your race may have led to you to seek your fortune in foreign lands though.

As the years have gone by, you have worked your way up from a lowly cabin boy, to the respected, or feared, captain of your vessel.

Moreover; you are able to pilot a small ship for short distances.
