You have elected to change your life, in its entirety, due to actions you took as a youth, or actions that were taken against you. It may be that you were a younger child in a royal house who was fooled into killing those who stood in your way to the throne - including your parent(s) and older sibling(a) - by a trusted friend or family minion. It may be that you always tried adhering to rules and laws in the belief that one day, you would come into your fortune, but you saw that those who didn't follow the rules came out ahead again and again. It may be that you were expected to occupy an important role in the church, but discovered something about the hierarchy that was a betrayal of all you believed, or another god influenced you to go against your church and your old god. You now serve a new god, a different god, one in opposition to the god you served and believed in. You will do everything in your power to destroy that god's powers and followers for what was done to you.
You were raised to believe something you now know to be a lie, and you have dedicated your life to oppose those rules and beliefs.
- Skill Proficiencies: Insight, Religion
- Languages: Two of your choice
- Equipment: A holy symbol (one you may have created yourself during the time of your punishment by your old church), a prayer book or prayer wheel, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 15 gp. You have no formal implements of your new church at the start of your service.
As the disgraced, you may act alone in your pursuit of truth, feeling that you were deceived by your previous church. You are a zealot in your beliefs, for it is all you have left to cling to. Your newly chosen religion may not fully accept you, yet, and you may be rejected by temples or refused entry until proving your service through deeds. You will have to go it alone - or found your own church that follows the tenets you know are true in your soul. You may try to convince those in your old church of the error of their ways.
On the other hand, your new church may welcome you with open arms, increasing your love of your god and your zealotry may become so passionate that it proves dangerous. But you know in your heart that everything you do in the name of your new god is in true service.
Suggested Characteristics
The disgraced are shaped by their past experiences, and may act blindly simply to oppose the actions or beliefs they feel were false. They are incurious about other religions or gods, having been "fooled once," and now believe they see clearly for the first time. Their flaws might be some hidden hypocrisy or heretical idea, or an ideal or bond taken to an extreme.
