Many of the current Hunters' ancestors descended from Brygenwerth. From its halls came a multitude of important factions within the Hunt - the Healing Church, led by Laurence, the First Vicar, the First Hunters led by Gherman, or even Ludwig's Holy Warriors. They all descended from the university. Alas, with time, the building has fallen into but a gaunt, skeletal husk of its former glory. The institution is all but dead.
Yet...there are still active scholars to this day. Many speculate as to why, but it is believed that Yharnam is trapped in some form of temporal anomaly, as scholars from decades prior are making their return.
