Phorexian Tribalist Image

Lush jungles of Phorex Isles have been a home to you. Reaching from the Bay of Gifts to the walls of Kir Vallen, you are more at home in nature surrounded by dangerous predators than inside any city walls.

When you choose this background, work with your DM to determine the nature of your tribe and how your character ended up in the campaign setting. Was your tribe part of the fiersome alliance of Ghermygg's Claws, or did they follow the mystical Druid-Queen Derica? Did your tribe divide and conquer different areas of the enormous jungle, or coexist with other tribes and large dinosaurs?

Skill Proficiencies: Survival, Perception
Tool Proficiencies: Choose between Leatherworker's tools, Mason's tools and Woodcarver's tools. Your choice should reflect on what your position in your tribe was.
Languages: Phorexian
Equipment: Inherited hunting token from a family member (tooth of a tyrannosaurus rex, forked tongue of a yuan-ti or the ear of a humanoid creature), artisan's tools you chose as your background proficiency, a dagger or a woodcutter's axe, hide clothes, and a pouch containing 5 gp

Tribe Role

During your time in the tribe, you had a specific role. Roll a d8 or choose from the options in the table below to determine your role:

d8 Tribe Role
1 Scout
2 Leatherworker
3 Woodworker
4 Dinomancer (You worked your own magics or worked with someone of magical talent to commune with the dinosaurs)
5 Warrior
6 Herbalist
7 Butcher
8 Chieftain / Chieftain's right hand

Feature: Dinosaur Expert

You have lived among the greatest predators of the world. Whenever tracking, identifying or recalling information on different dinosaurs, you can roll any suitable ability checks at an advantage. In addition to this, you usually know the common habits of dinosaurs you recognise (Such as their diet, if they are territorial etc.).

Suggested Characteristics

Those born and raised in Phorexian wilds nearly always find themselves challenging the rules, which makes life difficult in cities. However, when a tribalist finds themselves in a new tribe, their new allies can trust that they will be well protected.

d8 Personality Trait
1 I often snarl whenever I disagree with something.
2 Anyone has to personally earn the right to command me.
3 I usually ignore an actual contract in favor of discovering what the other party -actually- wants.
4 My mentality transforms into that of a beast when confronted with violence. I move around on all fours, and might even use teeth and claw to sunder my enemies.
5 When I feel challenged, I usually close the distance between me and the target to test their mettle and to see if they flinch.
6 I don't quite understand the significance of hygiene or sparing different items. Broken dishes and bent cutlery follow me where-ever I go.
7 I often humor myself with play-fights, wrestling my allies or even lightly wounding them.
8 I face problems head-on. A simple, direct solution is the best path to success.
d6 Ideal
1 Understanding. Different people and creatures deserve to be understood before important decisions regarding them. (Good)
2 Loyalty. Those who have proven themselves to me deserve to have their words followed. (Lawful)
3 Eradication. When faced with opposition, the whole world should know that they are destroyed. (Chaotic)
4 Might. In life as in nature, the strongest one always wins. (Evil)
5 Live and Let Live. Ideals aren’t worth killing over. (Neutral)
6 Nature. Only the pure, untouched nature matters. Civilization is not meant to spread everywhere. (Any)
d6 Bond
1 A specific beast once saved me from a natural disaster. Out of respect towards that beast, I never fight with others of the same race.
2 My tribes traditions have to be followed after they were eradicated. I am the last living testament of my tribe and will try my best to follow their lifestyle.
3 I were once tricked by a Yuan-Ti and now the sight of scales on a humanoid terrify me.
4 I were, in fact, raised by dinosaurs.
5 My aim is to cultivate and change people around me to respect the wilds in honor to my tribes Dinomancer.
6 I have seen what the civilized people do to my people. Nobody deserves slavery.
d6 Flaw
1 Ash forms a healthy soil for the wilds to grow upon. It is why I prefer to burn EVERYTHING in my path! For the wilds to regrow, of course...
2 I have little respect for anyone who is not a proven warrior.
3 Even the loose shackles of my tribe were too much and I ended up going against tradition. I am exiled and hunted by my own kind and I am uncertain if I can ever be truly loyal to any cause.
4 My hatred of my enemies is blind and unreasoning.
5 I often challenge the authority for the intrinsic value of challenge itself.
6 Other creatures are to be dominated or slain.
