Therefore, we declare this verdict: this panoply of dread and noisome whisperings is unlawful unto itself.

As a Blasphemer, you alone are permitted to read, hear, or repeat heresy: a category of secret knowledge that threatens the Crowns or even the Wheel itself. You are accompanied by a Censure when on duty, who acts as a check on your access to the forbidden.
Long ago, the courts ruled that it was necessary to acquire forbidden knowledge-- the better to oppose it-- and so, faced a contradiction. Today, the penalty for studying heretical knowledge is death or exile. For you, the penalty remains the same; Blasphemers are explicitly not given legal protection to do their job. This empowers the Censures to immediately imprison or execute any Blasphemer who may be corrupted by their exposure to heresy, thereby maintaining strict control over unlawful knowledge. When you inevitably expire in the course of fulfilling your duties, the Crown offers a contract of posthumous absolution for those whose career was deemed productive.
You hold an enviable position, and are on a fast track to promotion. You can expect to be given more important and dangerous topics of research as you gain experience and your body of forbidden knowledge grows. If you are loyal, unquestioning, and resilient, your soul can expect a commission* in the ranks of Our Mother Below.
Discuss the nature of your studies with your Dungeon Master. Under what Crown did you serve? What was your relationship to your Censure, then and now? What have you learned that you should not have, and how must you keep it a secret?
*Officer's rank, O2-O4 depending on tenure and fitness reports; non-guaranteed.

When interacting with forces from the Abyss or the Nine Hells, you can ask your Dungeon Master for a snippet of relevant heretical lore. You may recall some secret whispered to you by a mentor Blasphemer, make a connection to your previous studies, or notice a detail that anyone else would miss. There is no limit to the kind of question you can ask, although the lore you recall may be incomplete, circuitous, or misleading.
