As a former merchant you have unique insight into the business. When shopping you gain advantage on Persuasion rolls when negotiating prices on goods that you sold. (either roll d12 or pick from the Background Table)
On failed Persuasion roll you lose your temper, and must make an unarmed strike attack against the merchant. On a successful hit you lose advantage on Persuasion rolls until you make amends with the merchant. On a failed hit roll a d4. The result will be subtracted from all Persuasion rolls until you take a long rest.
You also know what a good and bad deal look like. You have advantage on Insight rolls when determining if a merchant is being truthful or trying to swindle you or a party member. If you fail the Insight roll and are swindled, you will immediately storm out of the store, and spend 1 hour ranting about the shop and the merchant to anyone you see.
