You have spent your life in an office conducting general office tasks. As a clerk, or clerical worker, these general tasks included basic administrative duties, record keeping, filing paperwork, and screening business meetings. Organizations of all kinds, from religious organizations to military units and private businesses, rely on the type of work you do to function smoothly on a daily basis. You may not be in charge, but without people like you doing your job, any organization would become a disorganized, unproductive, and chaotic mess.
- Skill Proficiencies: History, Investigation
- Tool Proficiencies: Calligrapher's Supplies
- Equipment: A blank notebook (50 pages), an abacus, Ink (1 ounce bottle), a Ink pen, a worn brief case (holds 20 lbs with built in combination lock), a small drinking flask, and a pouch containing 10 gp.
As clerk, you have more than a basic idea how information passes through an organization effectively and where along that information pipeline you can locate or intercept useful data. You can also easily understand a great deal within the small print of a variety of contracts or other legal documentation. You understand the mind numbing power of paper work and information gathering, it doesn't scare you.
Your personal history with working within a particular organization has also given you familiar contacts within it that you may be able to reach out to for help if you need it. If you still are held in good standing with those who employed you with work, it is possible they will support you with useful information or alternative mundane means of earning a bit more money (freelance jobs or overtime).
Suggested Characteristics
Clerks are a backbone to any business or organization and they know it, but aren't always given much credit for it as the quiet cogs that move the larger machine. They aren't the faces of the organization, or the decision makers, and their jobs are usually commonly available to anyone with the skills to multitask, learn quickly, and work long hours. How this effects them in their personal lives depend on what they wanted in life and what personal criteria they have for success. Some might be invested in their organization's success, maybe some are hoping for advancement through hard work, or perhaps some just do it to pay the rent.

|---|---|
| 1 | I idolize a leader of the organization I work for and, by following their example, hope to achieve greatness. |
| 2 | I pride myself in my work ethic. No one works harder or more efficiently than me and my work reflects my pursuit for perfection in everything I do. |
| 3 | I'd take short cuts for every problem if I could. Why waste time when there is a simpler solution readily available? |
| 4 | I always provide service with a smile, even if there is absolutely no reason to do so. |
| 5 | Cheesy puns and dad jokes are my thing. I think they are hilarious and will expose others to their glory as much as I can. |
| 6 | I secretly feel smothered by the monotony of daily life and always try to subtly make things seem more dramatic or thrilling than they actually are. |
| 7 | I enjoy collecting odd souvenirs every time I visit somewhere new when I travel. |
| 8 | I’ve developed a strong habit of practicing yoga in order to reduce stress. The more stressful the situation was, the stronger the urge to do yoga afterwards. |
| d6 | Ideal |
|---|---|
| 1 | Toe The Line. If I keep my head down, follow all instructions to the letter and work hard, then eventually I will be rewarded for it. (Lawful) |
| 2 | Above And Beyond. Even if it is not strictly related to the task at hand, I always try to go the extra mile to help those who seem to need more help than most. (Good) |
| 3 | Self-Starter. I don't need anyone's guidance or help. I have a goal and I'm going to figure out my own method of achieving it. (Chaotic) |
| 4 | Toxic Employee. I will bring down anyone anyone who I believe looked down on me or didn't appreciate me enough. In fact, I should be in charge. I am better than anyone else here. (Evil) |
| 5 | Another Day. As long as the paychecks keep coming and the benefits are good I will keep showing up to work. (Neutral) |
| 6 | Part-Timer. I just need enough money to move on to another horizon. This is but a small step on my way to a different goal entirely. (Any) |
| d6 | Bond |
|---|---|
| 1 | I have an old mentor that is always looking out for me. |
| 2 | I have a sleazy former co-worker that I keep crossing paths with. It's incredibly irritating, but weirdly routine at this point. |
| 3 | I had a steamy office romance that is still hard to let go. There are a lot of unresolved emotions there. |
| 4 | There is a successful business owner that has earned my ire in some way. I vowed to see them ruined for what they have done. |
| 5 | I am genuinely loyal to the organization I work (or used to work) for and want them to be successful. |
| 6 | I came across some sensitive information during the course of my employment that somebody discovered I have seen. Now I am being stalked by a mysterious stranger for reasons I do not entirely understand. |
| d6 | Flaw |
|---|---|
| 1 | I judge others harshly and never really trust people to do what they say they are going to do. |
| 2 | I tend to have difficulty standing up for myself in a crowd and crumple to peer pressure. Even if I have my doubts, I tend to do what I'm told by people who assert authority, despite my own beliefs. |
| 3 | I feel a need to blame others for any misfortune. It never can be a mere coincidence, it always has to be someone else's fault. |
| 4 | I am into playing pranks, but I have no sense of timing or know how to read the room. |
| 5 | I am constantly trying to trick others into completing irritating tasks that I am responsible for. |
| 6 | I am the ultimate busybody; a hopelessly nosey, meddling person, who's far too interested in what other people say and do while constantly giving them advice they did not ask for. |
