You were a part of apprenticeship that taught you the skills you needed to be the class you are now. This apprenticeship may have been thrusted upon you at a young age or perhaps you sought it out later in life. As an apprentice, you learned under a master, but this master is no longer a part of your journey.
- Skill Proficiencies: Pick two from you class.
- Tool Proficiencies: Your choice of a gaming set or a musical instrument
- Languages: Any one of your choice
- Equipment: An item from your class starting equipment list (one of your choice), a letter from your master acknowledging your skill or potential, set of common clothes, and a belt pouch containing 10 gp.
Your master is no longer a part of your journey. Why is that? You can work with your DM to determine the exact nature of their absence, or you can choose or roll on the table below to determine the reason behind your master's absence.
d8 | Master's Absence |
---|---|
1 | My master has gone missing. |
2 | I must seek out an item, a challenge, or hidden knowledge before I can continue my training. |
3 | I disagreed with my master and left of my own accord. |
4 | My master felt it was time for me to carve my own path. |
5 | I broke one of my masters rules and they expelled me. |
6 | My master has been murdered by someone such as a rival, former apprentice, or me. |
7 | I did not live up to my potential and my master ended the apprenticeship. |
8 | My master thinks I would be better served with a new master that I must find. |
Your master not only taught you the skills of your class, but shared their wisdom about the world. If you successfully pass a skill check you have proficiency in, you often recall your master’s wisdom on the subject too. This may include a recommended course of action.
