Gone Mad Image

You can no longer remember what it used to be like, before you lost your mind. Not your words - in many ways you feel like you found something more than lost something, but it didn't begin this way. Something triggered the change - the "loss" - it might have been a trauma, something inflicted on you magically, or exposure to something else that your mind simply couldn't wrap itself around, so it snapped. You might hear, see, feel things that nobody else does or can, but you don't necessarily look at this as negative - the voices tell you it is all the way it is meant to be anyway, and they only want the best for you. Right?

Skill Proficiencies: Choose two of Deception, Intimidation, Perception, Persuasion.
Languages: Choose one exotic language (Abyssal, Celestial, Deep Speech, Draconic, Infernal, Primordial, Sylvan, or Undercommon)
Equipment: A Monster Hunter's pack, a trinket, or a parchment you can't read.

Madness Table

There are many ways to lose your mind, but you aren't convinced that you are the only crazy one here. Choose a way your lunacy manifests or roll for it on the table.

d4 Madness Table
1 Paranoia - Everything - and everybody - is intent on your destruction and you are the only one who can see it.
2 Manic - Your reasoning and understanding are no longer present, and you are full of nervous excitement and energy.
3 Unpredictable - You often forget details in the short term, your emotions are hard to predict, meaning your judgement can fail you.
4 Compartmentalising - Certain events might cause you to lose the driver's seat to your body to another who inhabits it with you, or certain aspects of your personality might just disappear for a time.

Feature: Broken Mind

Your mind is powerful and not always a friend to you, or anyone else for that matter. This makes it difficult for others, as well as you,  to discern what you are thinking or intending.

Whenever any creature attempts to read your mind, they will find it to be open and honest as a child's, but before learning anything from you they must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw of DC 10+ your intelligence save or be themselves plunged into madness for 10 minutes. The mind of a madman is theirs and theirs alone for good reason.

Contacts

You tried seeking help once, ultimately to no avail. However, some healers or religious institutions in your origin city know your name after your visit left an impression, and would help you if they could. You have a closer relationship to one kindly individual in particular who occupies a low level position in one of those institutions (of your choice) who has checked on you from time to time.

d1 Contact
