You spent years learning the lore of the multiverse and training in the fortress-library of Candlekeep (or a different, similar place in a world besides the Forgotten Realms). You scoured manuscripts, studied scrolls, and listened to the greatest experts on the subjects that interest you. Your efforts have made you a master in your fields of study. You have friends among the Avowed, the monks who maintain the great library, and Candlekeep's enemies are your enemies, its allies, your friends.
- Skill Proficiencies: Arcana, History, Religion
- Languages: 2 of your choice
- Equipment: 5 candles, a tinderbox, a scroll case engraved with the symbol of Candlekeep (a gift given to an acolyte of Candlekeep who embarks on a life of adventure), traveler's clothes, and a belt pouch containing 10 gp
You can enter the fortress-library of Candlekeep freely, instead of having to give a rare and valuable piece of lore or book, and bring up to 1d6 companions, or, if you do not enter, 1d6+1 others. In addition, when you attempt to learn or recall a piece of lore, if you do not know that information, you often know where and from whom you can obtain it. Usually, this information comes from a library, scriptorium, university, or a sage or other learned person or creature. Your DM might rule that the knowledge you seek is secreted away in an almost inaccessible place, or that it simply cannot be found. Unearthing the deepest secrets of the multiverse can require an adventure or even a whole campaign.
Suggested Characteristics
Acolytes of Candlekeep are defined by their extensive studies and connection to the fortress-library of Candlekeep, and their characteristics reflect this life of study. Devoted to scholarly pursuits, an acolyte of Candledeep values knowledge highly—sometimes in its own right, sometimes as a means toward other ideals.
