You spent years studying under an established Magewright or Artificer. Through that study, you have learned enough about magic to recognize the form and function of most magic items. This knowledge forms the fundamentals upon which a career in the Mystic sciences is built.
- Skill Proficiencies: Arcana, History
- Tool Proficiencies: Two Artisan’s tools of your choice
- Languages: One of your choice.
- Equipment: A set of Artisans tools of your choice, a bottle of black ink, a quill, a small knife, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp
To determine the nature of your Magewright training, roll a d8 or choose from the options in the table below. Should your character develop into a full fledged Magewright (or spellcaster), this training may help determine your cantrip choices.
| d8 | Specialty |
|---|---|
| 1 | Alchemist |
| 2 | Locksmith |
| 3 | Lightningworker |
| 4 | Leisurecraft |
| 5 | Flameworker |
| 6 | Weaponsmith |
| 7 | Armorer |
| 8 | Sanitation and Culinary |
When you encounter a magic item, you may spend ten minutes examining the item, which allows you to determine the item's properties and how to use it, as if you had examined the item for a short rest. If you wish to attune the item, you must still spend a short rest to attune it.
It is important to note that this feature does not allow you to learn whether any spells are affecting the item and what they are. You do not learn whether the item was created by a spell.
Suggested Characteristics
Magewright apprenticeships require extensive study and dedication. Those who are slow, technically challenged, or lazy never make it past the earliest stages of apprenticeship. As such, most Magewright's Apprentices exhibit great pride in their work, occasionally bordering on hubris.

This feature allows you the limited ability to replenish depleted charges from an item with which you are familiar, extending its utility for a short time. To perform Magical Maintenance, you must spend a short rest applying various reagents to the item to draw in ambient magical energy. The cost of these reagents depends on the rarity of the magic item, as follows:
Common: 25 gp
Uncommon: 50 gp
Rare: 75 gp
Very Rare: 100 gp
Legendary: 125 gp
Recharging a magic item through this feature consumes the reagents, which must be replaced before this feature can be used again. At the end of the short rest, the item regains 1d4+2 spent charges, up to the item's maximum number of charges.
You cannot use this feature on an item you have not achieved familiarity with via studying it for a short rest, attunement, or casting the identify spell on it.
