Across uncounted plains, the secretive order of the Horizon Wardens ferrets out secret paths and ways between worlds, following an age-old quest to sequester and seal away relics, creatures, and knowledge too dangerous for outsiders to have. Since being inducted into their order, you have followed the orders of your sect-leader, keeping ears open for information about extraplanar interference or dangerous weapons needing confiscation.
Some sects of the order work in plain sight, hiding among the populace in cities, while others defend ancient vaults and temples of their order, keeping out curious adventurers, tomb-robbers, and archaeologists - by force if necessary. You know that this quest has few rewards, but you will do your duty, no matter where it takes you.
- Skill Proficiencies: Arcana, Stealth
- Tool Proficiencies: One of your choice.
- Languages: Giant, and one other of your choice.
- Equipment: A Warden Amulet, book, map of the sect's area of operation, Lantern, hooded, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp.
As a Horizon Warden, you are able to easily make contact with a local sect of Horizon Wardens by following secret symbols and hints that outsiders would not recognize. Further, you can always detect when there is an extraplanar influence in the world around you, but not the cause of the effect. Finally, you always instinctively know what plane you are on.
Spell List
For you, the spells on the Horizon Warden Spells Table are added to the spell list of your spellcasting class. (If you are a multiclass character with multiple spell lists, these spells are added to all of them.) If you cast them using your Warden Amulet, you may ignore material components of the spell, even if they have a cost associated.
| Spell Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| Cantrip | mage hand, resistance |
| 1st | feather fall, magnify gravity |
| 2nd | immovable object, pass without trace, rope trick |
| 3rd | blink, tiny hut |
| 4th | banishment, dimension door |
| 5th | legend lore, temporal shunt |
Your magic is often subtle, a slight warping of light and space the only indication a spell was even cast.
Suggested Characteristics
Horizon Wardens know that the work they do is dangerous and will never mark them as heroes, but they do it all the same. If they aren't careful, they can lose touch with the people they protect, and keep them in the dark about anything the Wardens believe is too complicated, dangerous, or frightening for them to understand.
