Unknown Origin Image

You awoke one day with no memories. Alone on a deserted island, wandering a strange forest, or in an eerie laboratory surrounded by magical equipment, you have no recollection of who you are, how you got here, or what happened to you before the awakening. You know how to speak, how to survive, and you have a number of highly specialized skills, but besides that, you are a blank slate. You must face the world without help and decide or discover who you are.

Skill Proficiencies: You have specialized training for reasons you don't fully understand. Choose two skill proficiencies to represent this training.
Tool Proficiencies: Your training is not limited to skills. Choose one tool, instrument, or gaming set proficiency.
Languages: You can speak, read, and write a language that you've never heard before. Select any language.
Equipment: You carry with you a few items from before the awakening: a weapon or set of armor you found lying beside you, and a set of tools or an instrument you feel strangely drawn to. You also carry a small trinket - perhaps a ring, a handkerchief, or a small portrait/picture of a person you don't know. You are unable to recall the significance of the trinket, but you are unwilling to let it go. Partner with your DM to select appropriate items.

Feature: Unexpected Connection

As you travel you may discover unexpected connections, if the DM wishes it. These connections may be to a person who seems familiar or that recognizes something about you, such as one of the items you've carried since your awakening or something about your appearance; or they may be to a location or an item that unlocks strange and intimate knowledge about something you've never encountered. No harm ever comes to you as a result of these connections, and they occur at the DM's discretion.

Suggested Characteristics

Those with unknown origins may have a variety of different responses to their circumstances, ranging from childlike innocence and curiosity, to bitter depression and grief. Some may find it easy to form new bonds and relationships, while others isolate themselves or exploit every opportunity to unlock the mystery of their existence. However they feel, their true nature will always assert itself, one way or another.
